L’ENSEMBLE ENSEMBLE
Eve Risser – piano
Mari Kvien-Bruvoll – voice, electronica
Kim Myhr – guitar, electronics
George Dumitriu – violin, viola
Toma Gouband – drums, percussion
The group was formed by French pianist and composer Eve Risser, one of the most distinctive and authentic creators of contemporary French improvised music.
The electronic experiments and Norwegian folk of Mari Kvien-Bruvoll and Kim Myhr, encounter the world of jazz/improvisation of Romanian composer George Dumitriu and the inventive style of Toma Gouband, in a heterogenous aural amalgamation.
Their collaboration creates enigmatic compositions, whose rhythms and harmonies are based less on the classical rules of music, than on a sense of collectivity, one whose moving intensity electrifies the atmosphere.
They playfully juggled the sounds and let them morph to (and alo) transitory zones in a delicate interplay of pure explorative joy, expectant suspense and cathartic dissolution. It was more a matter of suggestion and gripping approximation than a matter of straight articulation. In a way it was the opposite of deconstructive approaches. In a game with playful particles something ‘known’ emerges from unknown and non- determinate zones of sound.
